Maia Thornton (Managing Editor of News, Community, and Events ) is a junior double majoring in Medicine, Health & Society and Spanish. She is excited to work with New Dawn in order to put a spotlight on the lived experiences of Black Vanderbilt and Black Nashville through uplifting voices that are typically unheard. Her special interests include intersectional feminism, women’s health, social justice and the African diaspora. In the future, she hopes to work in health policy and advocacy in order to reduce disparities in healthcare. Cortez Johnson hails from Houston, Texas. He is a Neuroscience major with a vested interest in humanitarian medical care. His background in writing is grounded in fiction and poetry. He writes about everyday Vanderbilt life, as he sees it, from a black male perspective.
